Significance: In Hindu mythology, on the auspicious day of Vaikuntha Ekadashi, the seas and oceans were churned to gather the heavenly nectar by Sagar Manthan. Vaikuntha Ekadashi is also celebrated by Lord Vishnu’s followers.

Celebrations: Srirangam, Tamil Nadu, and Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, have lavish parties to commemorate Vaikuntha Ekadashi. Vaikuntha Ekadashi was held at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati and the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam. Vaikuntha Ekadashi is an auspicious day in Tamil Nadu when the temples open their Parampada Vasal or the seventh doorway to heaven. It is advised to fast for two days straight on Ekadashi. Devotees who have families, however, should only fast on the first day. Sanyasis, widows, and those aiming for moksha should all follow the second-day fast.
