Due to a wrist injury, Karolina Muchova will miss the Australian Open

<p>Karolina Muchova, ranked eighth in the world, said on Thursday that she will miss the Australian Open in 2019 due to a recurrent wrist ailment that has already prevented her from competing in the WTA Finals this year.</p>

<p>She posted on Facebook, saying, “It’s not my favorite thing to share, especially at the beginning of a new season, but unfortunately the wrist pain came back in the middle of my tennis preparation.”</p>

<p>“As a result, I must wait to start the season until my wrist is completely healed.”</p>

<p>At the US Open in September, Muchova sustained a right wrist injury while competing and making it to the semifinals.</p>

<p>The highest finish for Muchova in the Australian Open to date was a 2021 semifinal defeat.</p>
