Kishore Jena and D P Manu Are Added to Neeraj Chopra’s Registered Athletics Integrity Unit Testing Pool

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and silver-medallist javelin thrower Kishore Jena of the Asian Games have joined Olympic champion D P Manu in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the world’s largest anti-doping body in track and field.

Chopra, the current world champion and gold medalist from the Asian Games, has been a member of the RTP for a while, but Jena and Manu were recent additions to the AIU’s first-quarter 2024 list, highlighting the ascent of Indian javelin throwers on the international scene.

At the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Jena came in fifth place while Chopra took home the gold. Sixth place went to Manu. In the 2023 World Athletics Championships, three Indians were in the top six in the javelin throw final—a feat unto itself.

There are now seven Indians in the AIU’s RTP. The other Indians on the list include long jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin, lady javelin thrower Annu Rani, and star 3000m steeplechaser Avinash Sable.

Athletes that are part of the RTP must provide their “whereabouts” information, which includes their home address, email address, phone number, training site, competition schedule, and venues, on a quarterly basis.

Additionally, the athletes must provide a 60-minute window of time each day during which they will be reachable for testing. A “missed test” will be assessed if the participant does not show up at the prearranged time.

A “whereabouts failure” will occur if this information is not filed. A two-year penalty may result after three such failures or missing tests in a 12-month period, which is considered a breach of the anti-doping code.
