Jio Fiber or JioAirFiber: How to Choose the Right Home Broadband

Jio Fiber or JioAirFiber: How to Choose the Right Home Broadband

Jio Fiber uses a physical cable. JioAirFiber uses a 5G signal. Their plans are almost identical in price and OTT bundles. The right choice comes down to availability and setup time.

Most people choosing between Jio Fiber and JioAirFiber assume one must be clearly better. In practice, a Jio Fiber plan at Rs. 1,499 gives you 300 Mbps and Netflix Basic. A JioAirFiber plan at Rs. 1,199 gives you 100 Mbps and Netflix Basic for Rs. 300 less. The plans are far closer than most people expect. What actually determines the right choice is not the plan. It is which one can reach your building, and how quickly you need it working.

Once you have a connection, Bajaj Pay, the BBPS payments platform on Bajaj Finance, handles both Jio Fiber and JioAirFiber bill payments with your current bill amount shown before you confirm.

Jio Fiber Plans: What the Cable Gets You

Jio Fiber plan runs a physical fiber optic cable from the street directly to your home. The connection is dedicated. It does not share bandwidth with other users nearby, which means the speed you pay for is the speed you get, even at 9 pm when everyone else is streaming.

The entry plans at Rs. 399 and Rs. 699 include no OTT at all. OTT bundles only start from Rs. 999. Netflix enters from Rs. 1,499. If streaming is your main reason for getting broadband, the Rs. 999 plan is the lowest tier that makes sense.

JioAirFiber Plans: What the Signal Gets You

Jio AirFiber works without a cable. A small outdoor unit mounted on your wall or terrace picks up a 5G signal from the nearest Jio tower. An indoor router then distributes Wi-Fi across your home. No cable laying. No building access negotiations. The whole setup is done in 24 to 48 hours.

AirFiber plans carry a 1 TB fair usage limit each month. After 1 TB, speeds drop to 64 Kbps. For most households, 1 TB is well within range. Heavy users or large families should keep an eye on this.

Two things jump out from this table. First, at 100 Mbps you have a choice between two plans. Rs. 899 gives you 14 OTT apps and no Netflix. Rs. 1,199 adds Netflix Basic and Amazon Prime Lite for Rs. 300 more. If you already pay for Netflix separately, the upgrade pays for itself.

Second, AirFiber includes OTT from the base plan at Rs. 599. Jio Fiber does not include any OTT until Rs. 999. If your priority is streaming and 30 Mbps is enough for your household, AirFiber’s entry plan is better value from the start.

Where They Actually Differ

The plan tables are close in price. The real differences sit outside the plan.

The Netflix row is the new one worth paying attention to. If you want Netflix Basic and 100 Mbps is enough speed for your household, JioAirFiber at Rs. 1,199 is Rs. 300 cheaper than the equivalent Jio Fiber tier. You get a slower connection but the same streaming service at a lower monthly cost.

How to Decide

Choose Jio Fiber if:

Your building already has fiber cable infrastructure. You game regularly or run frequent video calls where speed stability matters. You use more than 1 TB of data a month. You want the fastest speeds at the higher tiers.

Choose JioAirFiber if:

Fiber cable has not reached your building yet. You rent and may move within a year. You need internet working within 48 hours. You primarily stream and browse rather than game or transfer large files. You want Netflix Basic at a lower monthly price than the Jio Fiber entry for Netflix.

One check worth doing before subscribing to AirFiber: verify signal strength at your specific address through the MyJio app. AirFiber performance depends directly on how close the nearest 5G tower is and how congested it is at peak hours. Over 7.4 million households were already using fixed wireless connections like JioAirFiber by May 2025, per TRAI data, which confirms the technology works reliably for most users in covered areas.

Pay Your Jio Broadband Bill on Bajaj Finance

Both Jio Fiber and JioAirFiber run on monthly billing. Paying before the due date keeps the connection active. Bajaj Finance processes both through BBPS with instant confirmation.

Steps to pay your Jio broadband bill:

  1. Open the Bajaj Finance app or visit bajajfinserv.in and log in
  2. Go to Bills and Recharges and select Broadband
  3. Select Jio as your provider and enter your registered account ID or mobile number
  4. Review the bill amount before confirming and choose a payment method
  5. Complete the payment to receive your instant BBPS receipt

Jio Fiber and JioAirFiber are closer than most people expect. The plans overlap at almost every price point, and JioAirFiber now offers a cheaper entry point to Netflix than Jio Fiber does. The right choice comes down to three things: whether fiber cable has reached your building, how much data your household uses in a month, and how quickly you need the connection working.
