Malaysia Masters 2023: Kidambi Srikanth loses, PV Sindhu advances to the semifinals

After a spirited victory against Chinese player Yi Man Zhang in the women's singles match on Friday, famed Indian shuttler PV Sindhu moved through to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 competition.
Sixth-seeded Sindhu, who has won two Olympic medals, defeated lower-seeded Zhang in a quarterfinal match that lasted one hour and 14 minutes by scores of 21-16, 13-21, and 22-20.
In the All England Open earlier this year, Zhang, who is ranked 18th, defeated world number 13 Sindhu in the round of 32. She had previously triumphed against her Chinese rival in the same competition.
On Saturday, Sindhu will play Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the seventh seed and world number nine. In the quarterfinals, Tunjung defeated Chinese second seed Yi Zhi Wang 21-18, 22-20.
Sindhu had fallen to Tunjung in the Madrid Spain Masters final in April, but Tunjung has been in excellent form lately.
However, Sindhu would have a 7-1 lead against Tunjung going into the semifinals.
However, in the men's singles quarterfinals, Kidambi Srikanth was eliminated from the competition after falling to Indonesian qualifier Christian Adinata 21-16, 16-21, 11-21 in 57 minutes.
Later on in the day, HS Prannoy will compete against Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in another men's singles quarterfinal.
