<p>A number of opposition figures said last month that they got a notification from Apple alerting them to the possibility of government hacking and “state-sponsored attackers attempting to remotely compromise” their iPhones.</p>
<p>In this context, Apple received a show-cause warning from CERT-In, a Meity entity.</p>
<p>According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), Apple must respond to the notification, which must be completed by their international cyber security team.</p>
<p>“They must come here and respond to those inquiries. The fundamental problem persists, the minister said reporters.</p>
<p>He said that while local Apple officials had been contacted by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, or CERT-In, they were unable to address the problem.</p>
<p>“They will travel from the US to meet with CERT-In, and it is their cyber security personnel who need to come,” the minister said.</p>
<p>The minister said he is unsure of the exact dates but expects the team to see Cert-In authorities later this month when questioned about the timeframe Apple was given to submit its answer.</p>
<p>According to a Meity official, the arrival of the Apple cyber security team this month is contingent upon timely acquisition of a visa.</p>
<p>Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders Shashi Tharoor, Pawan Khera, K C Venugopal, Supriya Shrinate, T S Singhdeo, and Bhupinder S Hooda, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are among the Members of Parliament (MPs) who received the warning notification on their iPhones.</p>
<p>The notice was also sent to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s aides, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chadha, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.</p>
