‘Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad’ Candies Removed From Amazon After CCPA Probe

Delhi, New: Amazon, a major online retailer, is facing legal action because it sold candy on its website under the alias “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.” The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) filed a complaint, which led to the action, stating that Amazon had engaged in dishonest trade practices by passing off sweets as “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad.”

The head of the CCPA, Chief Commissioner Rohit Kumar Singh, has expressed concerns over the internet sale of food products that falsely represent themselves, leaving customers unsure of their actual qualities.

He continued by saying that carrying out this activity might cause customers to base their decisions on false information, which would be against the 2020 Consumer Protection (e-commerce) Rules. These rules expressly prohibit e-commerce companies from engaging in unfair commercial practices.

Products on Amazon included “Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad – Desi Cow Milk Peda,” “Ayodhya Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad – Khoya Khobi Ladoo,” and “Sri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad – Raghupati Ghee Ladoo.”

The business made it clear that vendors, not Amazon, list and sell goods to consumers on Amazon.in, a third-party marketplace, in accordance with relevant Indian laws and Amazon’s standards.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has deleted the sweets sold under the name “Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad” from Amazon after receiving a notice.
